                                                                                    Charitable bowling events also are
                                                                                    welcomed, particularly those that
                                                                                    benefit local homes for veterans.
                                                                                      Wiemer has served on BPAA’s
                                                                                    Legislative Committee for years
                                                                                    and isn’t shy about urging fellow
                                                                                    proprietors to support the commit-
                                                                                    tee’s efforts. He’s also a Missouri
                                                                                    BPA past president and long-time
                                                                                    association advocate.

                                                                                      Despite his lengthy resumé of
                                                                                    success and service, Wiemer says
                                                                                    being selected for the BPAA Propri-
                                                                                    etor of the Year award “was prob-
                                                                                    ably the biggest surprise of my life.
                                                                                    When you look at our organization
                                                                                    and the great centers and people
                                                                                    we’ve got, some days I feel like I’m
                                                                                    scrambling to keep up.”
                                                                                      Does that mean Wiemer may be
                                                                                    considering retirement?
                                                                                      “No way,” he says. “I might retire
                                                                                    if I found something that was more
                                                                                    fun. But I still have fun every day.
                                                                                      “I don’t work as much as I used
                                                                                    to, which in our business could be
                                                                                    70 hours a week. That’s because the
                                                                                    kids want to do the job. They don’t
                                                                                    need me to be there to tell them
                                                                                    what to do. As long as they want to
                                                                                    stay in the business, I’ll stay in it.
                                                                                    They’ve all expressed that they’re in
                                                                                    it for the long haul, so we’ll figure
                                                                                    out a way to make it work.”
                                                                                      Adds Wiemer about his “bonus
                                                                                    daughter”: “I tell Keegan I’ll retire
                                                                                    when she fires me.”
