                       FRANK DeSOCIO
he July issue of Bowling Center Management is always interesting from a
T timing perspective. Depending on any number of variables that are out
Editor of our control, you may be reading this edition before, after or even during
                        BOB JOHNSON International Bowl Expo.
bob@bpaa.com And because of deadlines, there is no actual Bowl Expo coverage; that will
come in the August issue. It’s also too late for any last-minute Expo previews,
Associate Publisher such as one about the addition of Asleep at the Wheel to the schedule.
BARBARA PELTZ Had I learned about the group’s appearance in time to mention it in the
312 285 5525 June issue, I could have told you about when I saw them perform at one of
barb@bpaa.com those wonderful dance halls for which Texas is famous: Gruene (pronounced
“green”) Hall in New Braunfels. e venue dates to 1878, and I’ll bet there isn’t
Creative Director even a single member of Asleep at the Wheel that could tell you how many
ANDY NOWAK times they’ve played there. It’s a lot.
ey were added to the Bowl Expo schedule following the rst day of the
Senior Correspondents trade show on the lawn at the Gaylord Rockies Resort. e show comes about
MARK E. BATTERSBY half-way between the group’s appearances at the Cris eld Bluegrass and Sun-
DENNIS BERGENDORF set Festival in Maryland, part of the Chesapeake Bay region, and Club Paradiso
BARRY SPARKS in Amsterdam, about an hour and 15 minutes from Bowltech International’s
DAVE WILLIAMS headquarters. is band gets around, and it’s because they’re great. So, I hope
you either enjoyed or will enjoy them at Expo.
Contributing Writers Moving on, I need to issue an apology. For months now, proprietors have
JOHNNY CAMPOS been asking me, “What happened to that series of articles about the FEC being
                        ROSIE CREWS built in Wichita?”
TERRY JOHNSON Here’s the answer: e project was put on hold for a while due to supply-
GEORGE McAULIFFE chain issues and in ation. But principal Ray Baty assures me it’s still on and
HOWARD McAULIFFE he will get back in the routine of providing monthly updates to BCM senior
BOB PACANOVSKY correspondent Barry Sparks as soon as ground is broken.
BRANDON PALUMBO I never should have agreed to the concept of a monthly series of reports
KEN PATON detailing the progress of the project because such series rarely work out. Inevi-
GREG PERKINS tably, a glitch comes along that either delays or even derails the project, and
we’re left either with long gaps between the storytelling or no end to the story.
In my decades of experience editing magazines, my policy has always been
to utilize multi-part series only when all of the “parts” are already written. I
strayed from my policy with this series. I regret it, and I apologize to our read-
ers who had been following along each month. Hopefully, we’ll all be back to
                                                  reading about Baty’s project soon.
